Profile

Why do I need to register using my first name and last name?

We want to promote open and positive discussion on this site. We ask you to use your real name to help make this a friendly and positive community. We’re usually more polite online when we use our real names. And we’re often more comfortable talking to people if we know who they are. Both of these things are important to the IOC Athlete MOOC and we think they will make your experience of using the website more positive.

Who can see my profile (and what can they see)?

Anyone who has created an account can see a profile summary page of other signed up users. The profile summary page shows your user name and your profile picture only.

You can choose to show your email address on your profile summary page if you want to. To do this, select your profile link at the top of any page on the website and then select Edit profile. In the Email display drop-down list you can choose to:

  • Hide my email address from everyone
  • Allow everyone to see my email address
  • Allow only other course members to see my email address

Can I send messages to other users?

Discussion between users of the website is currently restricted to the discussion forums. If you feel it would be useful to be able to send messages to other users directly, please let us know community.manager@onlinecourse.olympic.org.

Can I send messages to academics and course leaders?

All discussion with course leaders, like discussion between users, takes place in the discussion forums. As a lot of people take part in each course, it’s not easy for course leaders to chat with participants individually. If you have a specific question which doesn’t relate to any of the forums, please send your message to community.manager@onlinecourse.olympic.org
