What is in a course?
Each course on the Athlete Learning Gateway is made up of:
How do I enrol in a course?
Our courses are available for you to study at any time. There’s no need to enrol. Just pick a topic you like and start learning. It’s that simple.
How long will it take to complete a course?
Our courses are designed to let you learn in a way that suits you. You can start from the first video and follow them one by one. Or you can pick out a few that interest you particularly. If you watch all the videos, take the quizzes and join the discussions, a course will probably take you around 1 hour to complete. But there’s no time limit, and you can join in whenever it suits you.
Do I have to complete assessments?
Courses on the Athlete Learning Gateway are designed to help you learn, not to torture you with the pressure of exams. Each course will include:
There are no formal assessments, no essays and no obligation to complete the questions or tests if you don’t want to. Our goal is to let you to learn at your own pace.
Do I get a qualification at the end of the course?
Courses on the Athlete Learning Gateway include awards and certificates:
When you reach Gold you can download a Certificate of Achievement, recognising your efforts in successfully completing the course. There are no formal qualifications, but we are considering different ways to recognise your study achievements. We would love to hear views on this subject.
When do courses start (and finish)?
Each new course is 'live' for a month, when the course leaders will support discussions in the forums. But all materials will remain on the website after the month is over. So even though the discussion forums might not be quite so busy, you can return to the course whenever you like, as often as you like. Be sure to check our homepage http://onlinecourse.olympic.org regularly so you know which new courses are coming up.
Can I join a course halfway through?
All of our courses remain on our website, so you can join in whenever you want to. To make the most of live courses, and join the online discussion with tutors and other athletes, it’s worth knowing which courses are live, when. Be sure to check our homepage http://onlinecourse.olympic.org regularly so you know which new courses are coming up.
How do I keep track of where I am in the course?
On each course homepage you’ll see a 'progress bar' (it looks a bit like a thermometer lying on its side), which shows you how far you are through the course materials. When you log in to the Athlete Learning Gateway you’ll see your progress in all the courses you have started. You can take the next step in any course by clicking 'Next'.
What happens at the end of a course?
When you complete a course – and earn the Gold award – you’ll receive a Certificate of Achievement. All your awards will be visible on your profile here at the Athlete Learning Gateway, and other users will be able to see that you’ve completed the course.
What does it cost to take a course?
All courses on the Athlete Learning Gateway are free of charge.
I’m interested in a subject you don’t cover. Can I request a course topic?
We will be adding new courses regularly. We’d be very interested to hear what you think of the courses we are offering, and subjects you would be interested to learn about.
Do you have plans to offer courses in other languages?
We currently offer courses in English with French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. The short articles and videos we feature appear in their original language (as indicated). As we learn more about what people using the website are interested to learn, and which other languages they want to learn in, we hope to expand on what we offer. Please take the time to tell us what you’re interested in.
